Mark Russell Recreation Center

The 26,000-square-foot recreation center on Taylor Road opened in December 2020 to serve the growing Cove area of Huntsville. The Mark Russell Recreation Center is located at 429 Taylor Road, 35763.

South Huntsville Public Library

Welcome to the new South Huntsville Public Library at 7901-L Bailey Cove Road, located on the north end of the Sandra Moon Community Complex. With over 30,000 square feet, a cafe run by HATCH, a makerspace, classroom, multiple study rooms and a quiet reading room, this is a library that will meet the needs of our growing population. 

Sandra Moon Community Complex

In Huntsville, you’ll soon go to The Moon to experience the arts! The Moon – the City of Huntsville’s Sandra Moon Community Complex – is the site of the former Grissom High School, which is already home to the new South Huntsville Library and beautiful outdoor recreation facilities.

Big Cove Creek Greenway

Located in East Huntsville, from Cranfield Road to the Flint River Greenway at Hays Nature Preserve

Aldridge Creek Greenway

Located in South Huntsville near Bailey Cove Road, one half-mile south of Weatherly Road to Ditto Landing2

Flint River Greenway

Located in East Huntsville, Hampton Cove, U.S. 431, from Big Cove Creek Greenway to pedestrian bridge at Flint River

Hays Nature Preserve

The Hays Nature Preserve features over 10 miles of trails and greenways that follow the Flint River and its associated oxbow lakes through low riparian habitat, old fields, and a golf course. This natural area is even an important part of the North Alabama Birding Trail. Horses are welcome on specified horse trails and dogs must be kept on a 6’ or shorter leash at all times. 

Monte Sano State Park

Monte Sano State Park is located near Huntsville in northeast Alabama. In Spanish, Monte Sano means “Mountain of Health.” In the late 1800s, visitors from across the United States came for “the season” to experience and enjoy Monte Sano’s fresh air, spectacular views, and mineral springs.

Burritt on the Mountain

Situated on a magnificent 167-acre site overlooking the city, Burritt lies in the heart of Huntsville, Alabama, atop Round Top Mountain and is an important part of Alabama’s History. For 70 years Burritt has been an attraction that everyone can enjoy.

Cove Universal Playground

A universal playground for children of all physical and cognitive abilities is located on the property. The playground includes a toddler play space, an outdoor treehouse/log cabin structure with a cave, waterfall and rock climber, swings, slides, sunshades, benches and restroom.

Sandra Moon Playground

The beautiful new 18,000-square-foot playground features artificial turf and rubber safety surfacing to create a vibrant and secure environment for children to explore. Children will discover a Rocket Ship, climbing and play structures, slides, swings, merry-go-round and a sensory wave arch – all promising endless adventures. Adults will find ample benches and sunshades, along with plenty of convenient parking. The park is fully fenced, ADA accessible, and is one of many recreational activities 

We Rock the Spectrum Kid's Gym

We Rock the Spectrum was founded to provide a place for children of all ability levels to play and grow together. As the only kid’s gym that offers an inclusive philosophy, we have found all children can benefit from our uniquely designed sensory equipment that is specifically designed to aid children with sensory processing disorders.
